Kia ora, my name is Karen Gorton. My role is Visiting Teacher in the Hawkes Bay region. Although I am originally from Wellington I did most of my schooling in Havelock North before moving to Auckland for a short period. I began teaching in
Auckland ten years ago working in an early childhood centre. Having previously worked behind desks all day
– payroll and administration - I really enjoyed observing and being part of the
enthusiasm and passion that teachers and children displayed each day. More importantly, no day was the same!! The following year I took it upon myself to
begin training at MIT in Manukau. In 2005
I completed my Diploma in Early Childhood Education at EIT in Taradale
