Preschoolers
You are working, or studying, and looking at quality childcare options for your child. Home-based care provides many benefits which are acknowledged by the New Zealand Homebased Early Childhood Education Association to include:
- Small group size with a maximum of four children under six, never more than two children under two. Individual educational programmes are developed for each child.
- Children can develop responsive and reciprocal relationships with one significant other, particularly beneficial for children under two.
- Family activities such as shopping, library visits, and trips to the park provide valuable learning experiences for children.
- The child’s own routines are able to be carried out in the educator’s home.
- Education and care is provided in a predictable, calm and familiar environment that enables children to build trust.
- Flexibility of hours—care can be arranged to suit parent’s needs.
- Regular visits from trained Early Childhood Teacher to support the educator, child and family.
- WINZ subsidies are available to those who are eligible.
PAUA promotes an individual learning programme for each enrolled child and provides stimulating and age-appropriate resources to aid the learning objectives. A Visiting Teacher will visit your child at his/her Educators home each month. After each visit you will receive a photographic report about that visit. A journal is created for your child documenting each child’s progress which will become a lifelong treasure!PAUA bases its Education Programme around Te Whāriki, the New Zealand Early Childhood Education curriculum. Te Whāriki is founded on the following aspirations for children to
“…grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in the sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valuable contribution to society.”
Where possible PAUA provides “Coffee, Chocolate and Chat about Children” seminars for Educators and parents. These are fun evenings where (apart from eating chocolate!) we look at some aspect of child development or activity area. Regular playgroups are provided in Taupo, Turangi, Palmerston North and will soon be starting in other areas as well.
Laminated books are made for children who are enrolled with PAUA. You can see examples of books that have been written here.
As a parent you also receive books! The Parenting magazine, which is published quarterly from Parents Inc, is sent with our newsletter. It has invaluable articles on handling behaviour, establishing values and creating a childhood to remember. Learn how to give your kids life-skills, and how to grow creative kids with ‘can-do’ attitudes. You will also receive the Grapevine Magazine.
PAUA is a free service, chartered and fully funded by the Ministry of Education to offer a quality service to parents, preschoolers and their caregivers/educators who qualify with the Home-Based Care Order. |
